The Springfield College men’s tennis team was bested by visiting Trinity, 8-1, at Appleton Courts on Wednesday night.

Springfield battled tough in doubles competition to start the afternoon, with Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Mike Kendrick (Watervliet, N.Y.) producing an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Three singles bouts went the distance, with the Bantams coming up in all three of them as they were able to capture all six singles points.  At No. 6, Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) took the first set 7-6, but was then topped by a 6-1, 10-4 margin, while Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) also won the first set at No. 5, 6-2, only to have edged 6-3, 6-1.  Thongbooncharoen dropped the first set at No. 2, 6-1, and after taking the second 6-4, was clipped by a 6-3 score in the third.

On Saturday, Springfield will travel to play MIT at 1 pm.
