Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with the Mauke and Sullivan Families and many in the community to proudly support the Celebrate Kate Foundation which honors the memory of Kathryn Mauke, who tragically had her life taken away too soon at the hands of her ex-boyfriend in February 2015. The 9th Annual Celebrate Kate 5K event was held on Sunday, May 21st at Nathan Bills. Mariah Mauke, sister to Kate, kicked the event off and shared that together they have raised over $50,000 for women’s shelters and scholarships in Kathryn’s name.

The Celebrate Kate Foundation was created as a way to celebrate Kathryn’s life and keep her memory alive.  Shortly after Kathryn’s passing, the families began holding an annual event in order to help raise awareness around teen dating violence. All funds raised from these events are donated to local women’s shelters and provided in the form of scholarships to graduating students that share her love for life.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am proud to stand together and support the Mauke and Sullivan families – such kind hearted and beautiful families.  Such a tragic loss of their wonderful and very talented daughter, who was taken away from us to soon.  The families have done such a great job of honoring her memory and giving back, helping students reach their education goals through scholarships.  Funds also go to help others in need, especially the women’s shelter at the YWCA with Executive Director Attorney Liz Dineen.”

“Special shout-out to John and Jessica Sullivan and Nathan Bills for continuing to give back to our Springfield community.  For years, they have supported this great cause and organization.  As I do every year, I was proud to join with them and our community at Nathan Bills this past Sunday to support and help raise awareness about this issue,” said Mayor Sarno.
