Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Police Superintendent Clapprood, and Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi joined with Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, Kathy Tobin and the Spirit of Springfield Board members, sponsors and supporters for a special Star Spangled Springfield announcement on today at Riverfront Park. AMR Regional Manager Patrick Leonardo Key Bank Branch Manager Jeff Guyott also joined. Key Bank is this year’s entertainment sponsor and will be bringing the performers Union Jack to the celebration. In honor of Flag Day today, attendees began the announcement by reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt and her dedicated team, and all of our sponsors and supporters for working together to once again put on our beloved Star Spangled Springfield for our residents. It was very fitting and special to make this announcement on Flag Day as ‘Old Glory’ continues to be a beacon of democracy and opportunity. Our 4th of July fireworks display shows the resiliency, hope, faith, and strength of our residents and business community of Springfield. Again, many thanks to the Judy Matt, all our generous benefactors, especially MassMutual, entertainment sponsor Key Bank, and my city departments for making this family-friendly event a wonderful and uplifting occasion.

“On a day that feels like a summer beach day, it was beautiful to make this announcement today down at picturesque Riverfront Park. I was very happy to see many residents enjoying the park, biking on the Riverwalk, staying cool with the splash pad, and fishing too. I am looking forward to being back down there with my family and thousands of other families for our world-class 4th of July celebration.”
