Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, and Ward 3 City Councilor and Maple-High Six Corners Neighborhood Council President Melvin Edwards joined with Housing Director Gerry McCafferty, Deputy Housing Director Robert DeMusis, Director of Disaster Recovery Tina Quagliato-Sullivan, Jose Claudio from North End Housing Initiative, and neighborhood residents including Rosemary Morin and Pastor Bruce Shaw from New Hope Pentecostal Church, to announce a new Home Lottery Application for four (4) affordable homeownership opportunities for qualified home purchasers in the Maple-High Six Corners neighborhood.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank North End Housing Initiative, in partnership with Youth Build – which included 11 youth working as carpenters, and NAI Plotkin, and C&C Homes for their continued partnership in developing these four new affordable and brand-new homes in our Maple-High Six Corners neighborhood, much like what we had done in our North End neighborhood in 2021.  My administration is committed to helping our residents, that meet the qualifying criteria, achieve the dream of owning a home and building generational home equity for themselves and their family.  This continues my administrations transformative efforts pre-and post-tornado to our Central Street corridor.”

There are currently four homes under construction in the Maple-High Six Corners neighborhood that will be available for purchase in late summer/early fall. Two homes are being developed by the North End Housing Initiative in partnership with Youth Build and NAI Plotkin and are located at 271 Pine Street and 251 Central Street.  Two additional homes are being developed by C&C Homes and are located at 402 Central and 414 Central Street.

Each newly constructed home will have three (3) bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms. Each home will be sold for approximately $190,000.  In today’s real estate market, this presents an incredible economic opportunity for a family to purchase a home with significant equity from the start. Because of this, the City of Springfield has decided to choose the ultimate purchasers through a lottery system. It is anticipated that construction and sales will be completed by late Autumn 2023.

To qualify for the lottery drawing, applicants will need to meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the lottery drawing:

1)         Be a First Time Homebuyer

2)         Be a current Springfield Resident

3)         Have a household income that is at or below 80% of Area Median Income (See current income guidelines)
