Bay Path University is pleased to announce that Terry DeVito, EdD, has been named Dean of the University’s School of Health Sciences.

Dr. DeVito’s experience encompasses five decades of service as a healthcare educator, practitioner, and advocate. She has been Bay Path’s interim Dean of the School Health Sciences since March 2022. Prior to that, she served as the director of the school’s healthcare management program and director of its graduate new initiatives, launching Bay Path’s Master’s in Public Health and Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree programs.

Dr. DeVito began her career in Hartford as a nurse in an emergency department level I trauma center, before becoming a healthcare educator and administrator, notably working in Connecticut and on a national level to develop educational programs for paramedics and EMS instructors.

Over the pandemic, observing the need for a multidisciplinary approach to providing and managing healthcare, Dr. DeVito helped create Bay Path’s Hot Topics in Healthcare Management, an ongoing series of lectures and discussions that have examined issues such as the intersection of public health and hospital systems, the emergence of health informatics data analysis, and quality matters in healthcare service delivery.

“Five years ago, when I joined Bay Path University, I was met with an energy that promoted a sense of belonging and camaraderie that continues to this day,” she states. “I look forward to continuing to support Bay Path’s vision, mission, and values as we tackle the complex challenges of educating the future workforce.”

Her research has been published in Domain3, the official quarterly scholarship publication of the National Association of EMS Educators, and in 2012, she was awarded the Dr. Richard Judd Lifetime Achievement Award for National Recognition in EMS Education.

“Dr. DeVito’s collaborative leadership style, experience with undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs, and commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts makes her well-positioned to take on this leadership role,” says John Caron, the interim Director for Academic Affairs at Bay Path. “We have great expectations for the School of Health Science, and there is much work to be done. I believe Dr. DeVito is exactly the person we need to lead the School of Health Sciences at this critical moment.”
